return to main photo album catalog Dry-In BBQ; Brick work begins Photos from April 21, 2006
On this day we had two special events. This gathering in the area that will be the TACC computer room is a scaffolding safety briefing for the work crews.
Here a demonstration is given on proper procedures for installing and inspecting the scaffolding (in both English and Spanish).
Afterwards, the whole crew is treated to a Salt Lick BBQ-catered lunch (total pigfest) to celebrate the imminent "dry-in", when the interior is secured from the elements. This is the first use of the new seminar room!
What's this about "dry-in"???? Here's photo of my office area - I bet you didn't know I ordered a swimming pool, eh? - one of the perks of being on the building committee. Obviously "dry-in" is still a few days off - until the last of the Densglass (the yellow exterior wall material) and windows are installed. Yesterday we had intense storms (golf-ball sized hail at my house) and the rainwater flowed freely into the interior of the building at numerous locations.
Outside, the windows are nearly completely installed on the first floor. Note the scaffolding on the second and third floors above the extension - this side will get it's Densglass and windows soon, now that the scaffolding safety briefing is finished.
On the west extension, raisable platforms are set up for the brickwork.
Bricks!!! - and lots of them. This photo shows the very first bricks to be laid (lower left - I didn't even realize this until I looked at the photo I took).
On the second floor, the water heaters and water softener are installed next to the air handler in the machine room.
This photo shows the director's suite taking shape on the second floor - this is the entryway.
Offices begin to get framed in on the south wall of the second floor.
View of the connector from the third floor - the window framing is beginning to take shape.
